China will hold commemorative events next year to mark the 160th anniversary of the birth of Sun Yat-sen, a revered national hero and pioneer of the country's democratic revolution, to gather strength to push forward the country's modernization drive.
The decision to organize the commemoration was approved during the 14th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference on Saturday, as Nov 12, 2026, marked the 160th birthday of Sun.
The events aim to honor Sun's enduring legacy in China's struggle for independence, social progress, and the welfare of its people, the CPPCC decision said. The events also seek to promote unity among the Chinese at home and abroad, strengthen the country's patriotic united front, and advance peaceful development in cross-Strait relations and the reunification.
