MACAO -- The Exhibition Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War opened on Monday in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), with around 280 government officials and representatives from various sectors of society attending.

The exhibition, themed "For National Liberation and World Peace," will run until Sept 24 at the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Commercial and Trade Service Platform Complex in the Macao SAR.

In his address, Chief Executive of the Macao SAR Sam Hou-fai noted that "one country, two systems" in Macao has entered a new stage of development. He said the 80th anniversary commemoration provides an opportunity to promote the national spirit with patriotism at its core.

A series of activities will be held to engage Macao residents, especially the younger generation, in recalling the nation's hardships and glory, honoring the sacrifices of predecessors, and transforming historical memory into a source of strength, he added.

Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR Zheng Xincong looked back at the war of resistance, expressed the hope that sectors of Macao society carry forward the great spirit of resistance, make better use of the advantages of "one country, two systems," and safeguard national security and Macao's stability.

Zheng also encouraged Macao's youth to uphold patriotic ideals, shoulder the responsibility of national rejuvenation, and become builders and successors of "one country, two systems" for a stronger motherland and a better Macao.

Through a wealth of historical photographs and video materials, the exhibition highlights the arduous 14-year resistance of the Chinese people from 1931 to 1945, conveying the message of "remembering history, honoring martyrs, cherishing peace, and creating the future."
