China will conduct an anti-dumping investigation into imported spirits made from distilled wine originating from the European Union, said the Ministry of Commerce in an online notice on Friday.

The scope of the investigation focuses on strong alcoholic beverages made from distilled wine imported from the EU and packaged in containers of 200 liters or less, said the ministry's trade remedy and investigation bureau.

The ministry received an anti-dumping investigation application on November 30, 2023, officially submitted by the Beijing-based China Alcoholic Drinks Association (CADA) on behalf of the domestic brandy industry.

In accordance with the relevant regulations, the commerce ministry made this move after reviewing the CADA's qualifications, the information about the products under investigation, the situation of similar domestic products, the impact of the products under investigation on the domestic industry and the circumstances of the involved countries.

The investigation officially commenced on Friday, and is scheduled to conclude by January 5, 2025, with the possibility of a six-month extension in special circumstances.

The notice said that interested parties wishing to comment on the product scope, applicant's qualifications, the investigated country, and other related matters in this investigation may submit written opinions to the trade remedy and investigation bureau of the Ministry of Commerce within 20 days from the date of this announcement.
