Guangzhou to host convention aimed at attracting overseas talent
An overseas talent convention in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, later this month will aim to introduce high-caliber individuals from overseas to China, and particularly to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Part of efforts to ensure the rapid and coordinated development of education, technology and talent, the convention will focus on facilitating the supply of talent to emerging industries.
It will be hosted by the Ministry of Education, the Western Returned Scholars Association and Guangzhou's city government.
Aiming to become a national and international hub for innovation, Guangzhou is going all-out to attract more domestic and foreign talent.
The city, which ranked second in the Global Innovative Index for the past four years, has issued more than 14,000 green cards to foreign talent. It has also sent 413 top students to attend prestigious universities around the world, 250 of whom had finished their studies and returned Guangzhou to pursue entrepreneurship and innovation opportunities, Wang Guilin, director of the city's science and technology bureau, told a news conference on Wednesday.
The convention, which is scheduled to open on Dec 22, will feature themed forums, roundtable dialogues and innovation and entrepreneurship competitions with the aim of providing a platform for experience sharing and idea exchanges and encouraging overseas talent to start up new businesses in the region.
Experts, business executives and overseas talent are expected to attend.
