Youth sailing competition wraps up Xiamen leg

Many clubs also took the opportunity to bring their members to an in-depth tour of the evolution of Chinese sailing. Liu Wenwen, general manager of Fuzhou Right Full Rudder Sailing Club, said: "On the way from Fuzhou to Xiamen, we led the children to Quanzhou for a study of ancient sailing boats, so young people who are learning modern sailing techniques will also be able to learn about their origins and formations."
Liu expressed hopes the tournament will encourage children to see why China has the richest and most diverse river boats in the world and to understand the conditions under which pioneers practiced their craft.
Zhang Haibin, one of China's first sailing trainers and an arbitrator, has nurtured a group of sailors and has been leading clubs in the competition after retirement. Zhang is one of many coaches who have switched to new roles in the sport, continuing to foster and encourage the progress of the young athletes.
