Tibet's foreign trade trending upward

The total value of foreign trade in the Tibet autonomous region reached 4.6 billion yuan ($680 million) last year, an increase of 14.6 percent year-on-year, according to Lhasa Customs.

Over the past year, exports reached 4.3 billion yuan of total trade, while imports were valued at 292 million yuan, with a trade surplus of more than 4 billion yuan.

In 2022, Nepal was the region's biggest trading partner, with trade volume hitting more than 1.56 billion yuan.

In addition, private enterprises played a significant role in the region's foreign trade last year, with the total import and export value reaching over 4.4 billion yuan — more than 97 percent of the region's total foreign trade.
