Installed capacity of newly added wind and solar power in China exceeded 120 million kilowatts last year, making the wind and solar power industry one of the most competitive ones in the country, National Energy Administration said on Friday during a press release in Beijing.

Accumulated wind and solar power installed capacity in China is expected to exceed 700 million kilowatts and the clean energies are also playing an important role in national energy security, it said.

According to the administration, wind and solar power accounts for 78 percent of the country's total newly added installed capacity last year. More than half of the country's newly added power generation capacity is from wind and solar, it said.

The average output of wind and solar power generation in most parts of the country last year accounted for around 15 percent of the average electricity load, with a maximum of 40 percent, it said.
