Father of hybrid rice remembered in paddy portrait

A portrait drawn on 6.6 hectares of rice paddies was created in Wufu village, Hunan province.
It was made by scientists and local farmers in memory of Yuan Longping, the father of hybrid rice, who died at the age of 91 in Changsha in May 2021.
Seen from above, Yuan's image is surrounded by plump rice ears. Behind him is the Great Wall.
More than 7,000 sticks were inserted into the rice paddy to make sure positioning was correct.
