US border open to foreign travel

While the pandemic heavily impacted each state, Hawaii sustained the sharpest decline with 60 percent, while Mississippi saw the lowest drop, 26 percent.

According to the US Commerce Department's International Trade Administration, in 2019, international visitors spent $233.5 billion experiencing the US, injecting nearly $640 million a day into the US economy and supporting 1.1 million US jobs. International travelers spend more in the US than any other country.

About 70 million to 80 million visitors visited the US each year pre-COVID-19. In July 2019, the monthly international visitations to the US reached 8 million. That number dropped in July 2021 to only about 2 million. Total international visitation to the US declined 75 percent in 2020.
