Construction of key venues for China Flower Expo completed
The construction of outdoor gardens and exhibition venues of the 10th China Flower Expo that will be held in Shanghai's Chongming Island has already been completed, Tang Zhiping, the city's deputy mayor, announced on Monday.
The expo, which spans 10 square kilometers, will take place from May 21 to July 2 and comprise a core flower exhibition zone with 180 outdoor gardens and two service zones.
Tourists will get to see over 20,000 exhibits, including a thousand types of new flowers.
During the expo, activities centered around flowers and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China will be held as well.
A total of 293 hotels and 988 homestays will be offering tourists accommodation on the island, according to Li Zheng, secretary of the Chongming District Committee.
Around 9,000 restaurants and food stalls will be offering a diverse range of cuisines, including Chinese and Western.
Liao Changyong, vice chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association and the singer of the theme song for the expo, and Olympic diving gold medalist Wu Minxia have been invited to become ambassadors of the expo.
According to the authorities, 99.53 percent of the staff involved in the expo have received their COVID-19 vaccinations.
Tourists can purchase pre-sale tickets before the opening of the expo at the official WeChat account of the expo and at local travel agencies. A discounted regular ticket will cost at least 100 yuan ($15.5) per person per day, while the discounted designated day ticket and a two-day ticket on weekdays will cost a minimum of 160 yuan.
