XINING - Qinghai, a province in Northwest China that is rich in green energy, transmitted 10.23 billion kWh of electricity generated by clean energy out of the province in the first half of this year, up 41.8 percent year-on-year.

The surge is mainly contributed to the hydropower transmission, which skyrocketed by 108 percent year-on-year to 6.25 billion kWh in the first six months, thanks to more water volume flown from the upper reaches of the Yellow River, said Tian Haiqing, executive director of the provincial power exchange center.

Located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the province is home to headwaters of three major rivers: the Yellow, Yangtze and Lancang (Mekong). The province has abundant hydropower, solar and wind energy.

The installed clean energy power generation capacity has reached 28 million kW so far, accounting for 87.7 percent of the total installed power generation capacity in the province.

Qinghai plans to continue to promote the transmission of power generated by clean energy to meet the target of transmitting a total of 17.4 billion kWh of power out of the province this year, said Tian.
