Chinese smartphone manufacturer Nubia Technology Co Ltd on Tuesday unveiled its Play 5G mid-range smartphone which targets the young generation in China, in a bid to grab a bigger slice in the world's largest smartphone market.

The phone includes a 6.65-inch active matrix/organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display with a whopping 144 hertz refresh rate and under-screen fingerprint scanner, bringing the smoothest and fastest speed experience for youths.

The handset comes with a number of cameras that support slow-motion video shooting functions. Compared with ordinary shooting, it can reflect the smear effect generated when limbs move.

Under the hood, the gadget is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset as well as a 5100 mAh large battery. It is priced at 2,399 yuan ($338) for the 6 gigabytes of RAM plus 128 GB storage version.

The company also announced a smart electric toothbrush called Nubia Neo at the launching event. In March, Nubia unveiled its first 5G-powered gamer-focused phone, Red Magic 5G.

A recent forecast from market research company IDC noted that the coronavirus epidemic will most likely have a negative impact on the global smartphone market. The epidemic will slow down smartphone shipments, slated to fall by 10.6 percent on a yearly basis during the first half of this year.

Buyers will purchase from online channels, which will account for a significantly increased share of phones sold in the first half of 2020 and may represent a permanent shift in buying behaviors, said Will Wong, research manager with IDC's Asia/Pacific Client Devices Group.
