Visitors to the Summer Palace during the Mid-Autumn Festival had the chance to appreciate not only breathtaking daytime views but also poetic night scenery, aided by upgraded light settings at the complex of gardens and palaces.

Performances of Peking Opera and Kunqu Opera graced the grounds, and more than 2,000 lamps lit up the lakes to render a touch of grandeur and tranquility. Moreover, blossoming sweet osmanthus enchanted visitors with its delightful fragrance.

A project to upgrade night illumination systems at the Summer Palace began in 2016 and completed in April. The new arrangement of lights helps to enhance the elegance of this site of classic Chinese gardens.
