The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau also upgraded the typhoon alert from blue to yellow on Friday afternoon. Authorities were busy securing outdoor facilities such as advertisement boards and lighting facilities on Friday to reduce the risk of their falling down in the storm.
Population evacuation has also been planned, as about 50 temporary shelters were set up in Shanghai's coastal Jinshan district in case of emergency.
Traffic has also been severely impacted. Beijing South Railway Station announced routes to some eastern destinations such as Zhejiang's Ningbo, Taizhou, Shaoxing, Wenzhou and Hangzhou, as well as Fuzhou in Fujian province and Nanjing in Jiangsu province, will be suspended for the weekend.
