The soldiers undergo tests immediately after they join the unit. After over one year training, less than 50 percent survive.

In a trip to the Jiaolong Commando training ground recently, this reporter witnessed many exercises. In addition to routine training, high-risk courses such as parachuting, blasting and underwater shooting are compulsory courses.

Wang Baojiang, 19, is the youngest soldier on the team. Every day he trains with the veterans. Eleven hours of training is a regular day for him. Combat readiness training with 15 kilograms of equipment is necessary for every recruit.

Every time his physical fitness reaches the limit, Wang feels it is "a taste of serving as a soldier". "Sometimes when we reach our limit, we just have to hold on one second, it will pass away..." Wang told China Daily.
