Chinese shares jump on Monday

Chinese shares witnessed sharp surge on Monday after the week-long holiday due to the Chinese New Year.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index edged up 1.36 percent, closing at 2,653.90.

The Shenzhen Component Index picked up 3.06 percent, ending at 7,919.05.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, rose 3.53 percent to 1,316.10 points.
