Wishing again to be alone, for after all I wanted to think about this amazing piece of geography, I hired a bike from a cafe. Cycling out of town on the road towards the airport I veered right to follow a gravelly track penetrating deeper and deeper into the wilderness. Stopping eventually, after taking some photographs, I sat down to write notes on this experience before the rather long haul back towards Dunhuang and straight into a cafe!
