A renewable energy power plant went into operation in Tongzhou District, Beijing's subsidiary administrative center, on Wednesday.
The power plant can dispose of 2,250 tonnes of garbage daily with its three incinerators, sources with the company said.
It can generate 200 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, which is equavalent to the energy from 100,000 tonnes of coal.
The power plant, with an investment of 1.24 billion yuan (about 182 million U.S. dollars), covers 19.7 hectares.
The waste leachate can be used to irrigate the trees inside the power plant, as well as recycled for industrial use.
