AEK Athens beat Monaco 100-94 to seize Basketball Champions League title


ATHENS - AEK Athens won Monaco 100-94 at the final of the Champions League Basketball held at the Greek capital on Sunday.
Half a century after the conquest of the European Cup at the Panathenaic Stadium of Athens and eighteen years since the conquest of the Saporta Cup, AEK took the third European title in its history, winning the Champions League Basketball.
The victory sent thousands of its fans cheering and singing on the streets.
The Monegasques tried hard, sometimes reducing the difference to 2 and 3 points, but Dragan Sakota's team had the lead throughout the game.
The match was tough and fast from the beginning, but AEK had Mike Greene on a great day with 19 points.
Captain Dusan Sakota also left his mark especially in the fourth quarter, scoring critical two-pointers and three-pointers, while Kevin Punter made a great performance and scored 16 points.
Monaco tried to steal the victory several times getting too close to the score with Sergii Gladyr (18 points), but the hosts made their way at the top of Europe.
