The China Daily website provides the latest news about the Shanghai World Expo, from the magnificent pavilions to the unbelievably creative and low-carbon living style.

The following are highlights of latest developments in preparations for the upcoming World Expo 2010 in Shanghai:

SCULPTURES PLACED AT EXPO SITE
Seventy-six sculptures were placed in the Expo park Tuesday as part of the landscape for the six-month cultural gala set for May 1 to October 31.

The art works were created by artists from scores of countries including China, the United States, Australia, Japan, Russia, Italy, France, Belgium and Cuba, involving 200-odd designing and creative teams.

The sculptures were installed in four venues, namely the central axis of the Expo park, area along the Huangpu River, the entry plaza and the old site of the Jiangnan Shipyard with a history of more than 100 years.

HUNDRED HANDICAPPED CHINESE TO BE INVITED TO FRANCE PAVILION

Around 100 Chinese handicapped people, including 15 who survived the 8.0-magnitude earthquake on May 12, 2008 in southwestern China's Sichuan Province, would be invited to visit France Pavilion for the World Expo 2010, Sanofi-Aventis, a leading pharmaceutical company based in Paris and also the leading sponsor for the Pavilion, pledged Tuesday.

Seven items of France's "national treasures", including impressionistic paintings and sculptures, will arrive in Shanghai at the end of this month for exhibition in the Pavilion. Five of them each involve more than 100 million euros in insurance premium.
