UN to convene meeting on nuclear test ban

Foreign ministers from more than 100 countries will meet at UN Headquarters next week, to promote the entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).

The conference on September 24 and 25 will be jointly chaired by French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and his Moroccan counterpart Taib Fassi Fihri, according to a UN press release.

A Final Declaration will be issued at the end of the conference, calling on those countries that have not yet ratified the treaty to do so and proposing concrete actions that states should take to promote the treaty.
