The ivory burn is approaching

Kenyaplans to make history by destroying the haul that is said to belong to about 8,000 elephants and 343 rhinos.

The 'white mountains' are neatly stacked about 100 meters away from the previous burn sites in Nairobi National Park. President Daniel Arap Moi, in 1989, set ablaze 12 tons of ivory. Last year, one ton was destroyed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In 2011, President Mwai Kibaki burnt five tons in Manyani, located inside Tsavo National park, about 321.6 km from the capital city of Nairobi.
