A(H1N1) outbreak reported in C China school

CHANGSHA: A school in central China's Hunan Province reported an outbreak of A(H1N1) influenza, local authorities said Monday.

More than 20 students at the Yueyun Middle School in the Hengshan county of Hengyang city began to show symptoms of flu last Wednesday. Local health authorities confirmed two A(H1N1) cases on Friday.

By Monday, the number of confirmed A(H1N1) cases has risen to five, while 36 others in the school showed symptoms of flu, said an official with the Hunan provincial health department.

The school has more than 2,000 teachers and students, according to local sources. Classes have been suspended because of the outbreak.

This is the second A(H1N1) outbreak in schools in Hunan. Last month, 16 students in a school in Yongzhou city were found to be infected with A(H1N1).

According to the Ministry of Health, 4,415 A(H1N1) cases had been reported on the Chinese mainland by 3 pm Friday, of whom 3,577 had recovered.
