A 4G network would cover the major Universiade venues to enable a faster Internet speed, according to China Mobile's Shenzhen company.

With the help of the TD-LTE network, users could transmit high-definition images and videos in real time, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported July 20.

A total of 220 TD-LTE stations would be constructed at the Games venues and downtown areas before the opening of the Games on Aug. 12.

Shenzhen was one of six cities to trial the TD-LTE technology, which had been recognized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as international 4G standard.

The city started trials of the TD-LTE network April 6, the first pilot city to do so, the paper said. The city would develop new generation of information technology in the next five years, of which TD-LTE was a key component.
