Free WiFi service offered

China Telecom officially initiated free WiFi service at selected areas at an evening party yesterday for the Universiade torch relay.

In the coming months until the end of September, laptop, iPad and iPhone users can log onto http://wlan.vnet.cn/ to check the WiFi distribution areas and become connected by linking with ChinaNet.

China Telecom had chosen more than 1,000 locations to provide free WiFi including some at Universiade venues, the airport, checkpoints, hotels, railway stations and business areas.

Phone users can text message KTWIFI# plus an eight-digit password to 10001 to apply for free WiFi service and Telecom broadband users can call 10000 to apply for an account and a password.

The 3G wireless network of China Telecom covers 99 percent of outdoor areas and 80 percent of indoor area of Shenzhen.
