2011 SZ: More Tests, More Meetings and More Inspections

SHENZHEN - As the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen is approaching, the preparation pace of the Organizing Committee and FISU has speeded up.

From June 13 to 19, three test events took place in Shenzhen, namely Table Tennis, Sailing and Aerobics. The Competition Team, Venue Team and the IT Team of the Organizing Committee were fully involved. The allocation of the functional areas, the entrance flows of different groups as well as the Timing and Scoring System have been tested.FISUCT Chairs were also present and were in general very happy with the preparation. According to the plan, all the 41 competition venues will be tested by the end of July.

At the same time, there is aFISUdelegation paying a multi-purpose visit in the summer city. This delegation consists of FISU Secretary General/CEO, Eric Saintrond, CTI Chair Stavros Douvis, SU Director Marc Vandenplas, Assistant to Universiade Jing Zhao, Sport Assistant to Summer Universiade Melanie Stallecker, as well as theFISUIT Advisor Mirjana Cvijanovic and her colleague Zoran Nikolic.

Last night, upon the arrival,FISUSG/CEO Eric Saintrond, SU Director Marc Vandenplas, together with the Assistant to Universiade Jing Zhao already had their first meeting with the Vice President of OC Executive Office Liang Daoxing and his staff, to discuss the accreditation and visa procedure. Both parties agreed to try their best in order to ensure the smooth running of this procedure and called for the cooperation of delegations.

Today is the day for Sports and Venues. The whole day meeting covered all the relevant topics, including Competition Schedule, Test Events, Sport Entries, ITO Service, Technical Handbook, Construction of the Venues, etc.

TheFISUdelegation is staying in Shenzhen for the rest of the week, and in the following days, they’ll cover all the aspects in terms of the preparation of the Summer Universiade, including Accreditation, Visa Procedure, Sports, Venues, GMS, GRS, Athletes’ Village, Opening and Closing Ceremonies, etc..

The Vice President and Secretary General of the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC), Yang Liguo, together with Shen Zhen, the Director of International Cooperation and Exchange joined all the meetings and will pay the inspection with theFISUdelegation.

Also, the Assistant to Universiade, Jing ZHAO has started her mission in Shenzhen since June 13th and will stay with the Organizing Committee until the end of this Universiade.

Today is June 21st, 52 days to go. The temperature in Shenzhen now is 33°C – this is a hot city with a “hot” event. Let us expect.
