Xiamen investment fair opens global promotion with Macao roundtable

The Mainland-Macao Investment Cooperation Roundtable was held in Macao on Oct 22. Officials, business associations, financial institutions, and companies . to discuss deepening two-way investment, strengthening Macao's role as a trade cooperation platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and expanding into Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking markets.

The event also marked the first promotion of the 27th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), which will be held in Xiamen next year. Organizers hope to use the fair to connect Chinese industries with markets in Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries.

Zhang Jianbin, director of the China (Xiamen) International Investment Promotion Center, said CIFIT has grown into one of the world's most influential investment events and a flagship platform for "Invest in China". He added that foreign investment in China's high-tech sectors is gaining momentum, in step with global capital flows.

Carlos Alvares, president of the Council of the Macao Delegation of the Portugal-China Chamber of Commerce and Industry and vice-chairman of the Macao Association of Banks, said Macao's banking sector can handle complex cross-border deals and connect multilateral syndicates, and is well placed to serve as a bridge between the mainland and Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking markets.

CIFIT is China's only national-level investment fair. Its 26th edition, held last month in Xiamen, expanded its exhibition area from 120,000 to 200,000 square meters and drew more than 1,200 delegations and over 100,000 visitors from 129 countries and regions.

The 27th CIFIT will continue to promote both inbound and outbound investment, with signature events including the Future Investment Conference and the Gulangyu Night, offering global investors a platform to explore new industries and investment hotspots.
