During the 2026 New Year period, Siming district, Xiamen, brought together the cultural essence of its hometown for overseas Chinese, the charm of Southeast Asian influences, and the distinct characteristics of Minnan (Southern Fujian) along Zhongshan Road. Through multiple themed exhibition areas and mobile parade performances, residents and visitors were immersed in the century-old qilou (arcades), celebrating the arrival of the New Year together.
The main event — the Overseas Chinese Fellowship Gala — kicked off on Dec 31, 2025, in collaboration with Xiamen's art troupes. The opening performance featured vibrant programs including the Vietnamese bamboo dance, Myanmar's water-splashing dance, traditional Thai dance, and a Peranakan costume showcase, highlighting the charm of multicultural integration.
In the "Passing of the Fisherman's Lantern" segment, the lantern procession set off from Shapowei Wharf, passed through Tongwending and Xiamen's ancient city wall, and finally arrived at Qiaopi Square, symbolizing the inheritance and homecoming of the overseas Chinese spirit.
