Siming district in Xiamen, a coastal city in East China's Fujian province, has been honored as a national demonstration zone for scientific promotion, which is the highest national honor for an urban district that has reached an advanced level in terms of scientific promotion and development, local media reported.

The China Association for Science and Technology, the largest non-governmental organization of scientific and technological professionals in China that maintains close ties with millions of Chinese scientists, engineers and other professionals, recently announced the list of the second batch of national demonstration counties (cities, districts) for the 2021 to 2025 period, and Siming district was honored for the third time since 2011.

In recent years, Siming district has made continuous efforts to strengthen scientific promotion and popularize scientific knowledge among its residents, and has achieved a new pattern of scientific promotion throughout its communities.

While setting up mechanisms and systems to coordinate the efforts in scientific promotion, Siming district established science and technology associations at various levels ranging from the district level to the community level.

Currently, the district has six national-level scientific promotion and education bases, 12 provincial-level ones, 47 district-level ones and 11 academician workstations, and a resource sharing platform for scientific promotion has taken shape in the district.

In addition, there are nearly 3,000 trained volunteers grouped into 67 teams in the district for scientific promotion, giving full play to the role of science and technology volunteer services in grass-roots social governance.

The district has also made efforts to build brands in scientific promotion by organizing thematic activities, including "cloud" technology, maritime science, astronomy and meteorology, ecological conservation and emergency response to form a replicable and promotable Siming experience.
