Chengdu’s Tianfu New District is an important place for developing both a regional center and a greater metropolis. It is expected to push the development of the city’s modern industries and to fuel the economic development of the entire west. The concept behind it shows its role in China and points toward a golden investment opportunity.
During the district’s planning and construction phase, Chengdu, Meishan, and Ziyang will increase cooperation and promote a “reshaping industrial Chengdu” goal.
The New District and downtown Chengdu will form a “one nucleus, two areas, twin centers” plan, where the “one nucleus” refers to Chengdu (including greater Chengdu and part of Ziyang and Meishan) and the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone. The “two areas” are the downtown, as a priority development site, and the New District as another key development area. The “twin centers” are the downtown and New District, which as a center will emphasize science, technology, commerce, culture, and a top modern service industry. The old town will concentrate on residences, trade, culture, and domestic services.
The New District is a rare opportunity for Sichuan province’s development, especially Chengdu’s, one with immense potential. The New District will also have six new features, as follows:
New mission. Its mission is to be a part of the state-level Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone and a nucleus of that Zone.
New goal. The District’s goal is an “industrial Chengdu”. After it is completed, it will be a modern international town that focuses on manufacturing, top services, and business and living.
New concept. During the planning phase, the District was seen as a trinity -- modern industry, modern life, and a modern metropolis with balanced, scientific, urban-rural development, and integrated property ownership.
New industries. The District’s goal is to be a major center and high-tech industrial base for the west, by giving priority to a headquarters economy and cyclic economy, and top emerging industries in new energy, new materials, and information technology.
New form. The District plan calls for a construction area of about 650 square kilometers, or 40 percent of the total District area. The other 60 percent is for protecting the ecology. Ideally, the District will have a complete green system.
New technologies. Technology for greening, the ecology, intelligence, and energy conservation all incorporated into the District plan.
