The core parts of the Chengdu Tianfu New Area are the southern quarter of Chengdu High-Tech Development Zone, Chengdu Economic and Technological Development Zone, Shuangliu Economic Development Zone, Pengshan Economic Development Zone, Renshou Shigao Economic Development Zone, Longquan Lake Planned Area, Three Forks Lake, and Longquan Mountain.

These parts cover three cities, seven counties and 37 townships. The sub-district administrative offices are in the southern quarter of Chengdu High-Tech Development Zone, Longquanyi district, Shuangliu county, Xinjin county, Jianyang city under Ziyang city, and Pengshan county and Renshou county under Meishan city.

The total area amounts to 1,578 square kilometers. Approximately 81 percent of the planned Chengdu Tianfu New Area takes up 1,293 square kilometers in Chengdu. It stresses “surroundings of hills and lakes, combination layouts, integration of industrial bases and residential quarters, coordinated development of urban and rural areas, ecological countryside, intensive development, and low carbon growth” in its ecological planning.
