Allowing Syrian people to have the right and the power to decide on the political transition is the key to solve the complicated issue, says an article in People's Daily. Excerpts:

There was no cease-fire at the Eid al-Adha Festival in Syria. The efforts by Lakhdar Brahimi, the United Nations-Arab League joint special representative, calling for a cease-fire failed.

As the war in Syria continues, its threat to regional stability and safety are also increasing.

More foreign powers and interest groups are appearing in the battlefield, including religious activists and international terrorists, which means that finding a solution for the crisis is increasingly difficult.

The spillover effects of the local crisis are becoming more apparent. The war in Syria may be extended to neighboring regions and countries. The crisis can become the fuse that will ignite an explosion of regional conflicts.

Syria is in a very special position for the whole region. The political and safety environments are very delicate because of historical and religious reasons.

The crisis not only creates refugee and terrorism problems for the region, but also has an impact in political and diplomatic relations.

The fundamental cause for the endless chaos and war is that the Syrian people don't have the right to decide their own nation's future until now.

A cease-fire is the first and necessary condition to return those rights to the people. If all relevant sides continue to treat Syria as a testing ground for their interests, they will finally draw fire against themselves.
