Different admission requirements between men and women in the college entrance examinations expose gender discrimination in education, which harms social justice, says an article in the Guangzhou Daily. Excerpts:

Facing public criticism on gender discrimination in the college entrance exam, the Ministry of Education recently said that some courses in specific colleges can adjust their admission ratios between males and females following specific procedures based on the consideration of national interests.

We always talk about equality between men and women, but it seems hard to achieve, even in the college enrollment process, where fairness is most required.

If the authorities allow some colleges to raise the women's admission requirements above those of men, it goes against the principle of equality in education.

The Ministry of Education said that the different admission rules between men and women in college enrollment are due to the requirements of some specific industries and positions, but failed to tell the public which industries and positions require qualities in which men are naturally better than women. If educational authorities openly discriminate females using the national interest as an excuse, it not only undermines equality in the education system, but also does harm to social harmony.
