The question now is not whether but how to develop renewable energy industry, says an article of people.com.cn. Excerpts:

The development of new energy has been embroiled in controversy since the very beginning. Opponents argue that eco-friendly energy, such as wind and solar power, comes at a higher cost since the technologies to generate them has yet to mature. Some say strong winds always bring heavy sand, causing considerable damage to the wind power equipment. Therefore, developing wind power doesn't suit our national conditions.

The equipment to generate wind power equipment in China are mostly based on differential designs for a life-span of more than 20 years, giving full consideration to sandstorm, low temperature, drought and some other special climate conditions. Thousands of wind power units have been functioning well in the wild west of China.

The wind power industry creates jobs in equipment manufacturing, construction and service sectors, too. Hence, we should focus on expediting the development of technology and mastering the key technologies. And policies on grid connection, subsidy, supporting projects and environmental protections should be made more favorable. We shouldn't be daunted by the difficulties ahead. Renewable energy is the right road of development.
