Chinese medical team heading to Africa

China is sending another group of medical personnel to Africa to help in the fight against Ebola, consisting of staff from the Jiangsu province Infectious Disease Institute, Chinese Disease Control and Prevention Center, and Beijing PLA General Hospital, to provide training, lab tests, observation and treatment.

At a send-off ceremony, on March 13, in Beijing, Li Bin, of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), said, “The Ebola outbreak in Guinea and other West African countries occurred in March 2014. And, by now, the Chinese government has sent around 750 million yuan ($120 million) worth of emergency aid and nearly 1,000 medical personnel for observation and treatment of 850 suspected cases and to test around 5000 samples.”

Li also said that China has built an Ebola treatment center and bio-safety lab for West African countries and trained more than 13,000 local medical personnel and although the epidemic is easing there, prevention is still crucial.
