Education achieves higher quality development

The education sector in Tai'an, Shandong province has achieved higher quality development over the past five years, local media reported.

The city's preprimary education improved. From 2016 to 2020, the city reconstructed 685 kindergartens and completed the renovation of 50 supporting kindergartens in communities.

The three-year enrollment rate and of preschool education increased from 95 percent in 2015 to 129.6 percent in 2020.

Tai'an has achieved balanced development in compulsory education. The city has invested a total of 10.66 billion yuan ($1.63 billion) to renovate and expand 411 new schools.

The local government has strengthened the development of boarding schools in townships and towns, small rural schools, and schools in county seats.

A total of 38.59 million yuan in grants and living allowances for compulsory education were issued, benefiting 75,348 impoverished students. The ranks of teachers have been strengthened.

The local government has ensured a steady level of investment in education, improved the mix of educational spending, and narrowed the gaps between urban and rural areas.

Official data showed that the city's total educational expenditure increased by 37 percent from 7.55 billion yuan in 2015 to 10.35 billion yuan in 2019.
