Beijing Symphony Orchestra to perform in Qingdao

The Beijing Symphony Orchestra will give a concert at the Qingdao Grand Theater in the coastal city of Qingdao, East China's Shandong province on May 17, the Chinese-language Qingdao Daily reported on May 6.

Tan Lihua, director of music and principal conductor of the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, will conduct the concert, which will feature a string of world classics, such as the Light Cavalry Overture and Carmen Overture.

Organizers say that the concert is likely to encourage local residents in Qingdao to develop more interest in symphony compositions.

Set up in October 1977, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra has staged well-known works by foreign and Chinese composers.
