Germany's testing and certification company, TUV Rheinland, has set up a testing laboratory in the city of Qingdao, Shandong province, on Dec 18, to ensure the quality of ornaments, such as accessories, watches, and jewelry.

Xue Le, the president of TUV Rheinland's China operations, explained that Qingdao is the largest production and export base for simulated ornaments that sell well in the US, UK, Austria, Germany, Canada and Hong Kong, with more than $200 million worth of exports, and the lab is expected to improve Qingdao's detectability in simulated ornaments and will include textiles and toy products in the future.

TUV Rheinland was founded in 1872, with HQ in Cologne, Germany, and has 43 laboratories across China, mostly in prosperous coastal areas, where its role is to act as an independent third party in testing and certifying technical systems, products, and service, and to help the project and design process of companies based on specifications and standards.
