'Gingko couple' join list of Top 100 Ancient Trees

The gingko couple, one female and the other male, is more than 1,000 years old.

The two gingko trees in the courtyard of the historical Xuedou Temple in Fenghua, Ningbo were recently put on the list of Top 100 Ancient Trees in China. Only six trees in Zhejiang Province joined the list.

The gingko couple, one female and the other male, is more than 1,000 years old. To protect the two ancient trees from potential harms, local authorities and organizations have taken preventive measures since 1997.

Wang Bili, a pest-control expert with the local forestry department, visits the temple every month to check the health of these two trees and report to the State Forestry Administration.
