Flaky pastry peddler Dong Yugui, who always plays the flute while selling his sweet treats, is a special attraction in Yuanding residential area in Panjin, Liaoning Province.

Many citizens stop to listen to his performance first before buying some pastries to take home everyday. Over time, people have learned that Dong supports his son in college by selling flaky pastries. Some warmhearted netizens uploaded Dong's photos to the Internet and called him the "most brilliant peddler in Panjin." Some others have dubbed him "Brother Flaky Pastry."

Dong used to be a worker in a timber mill in Panjin. The timber mill went bankrupt in 1994 and Dong Yugui was laid off. At that time, his family had not saved a penny. His son is studying in Shenyang Conservatory of Music and his daughter is a high school student. The family fell on hard times. In order to support the family, he began to sell flaky pastries.

Recently, after some netizens uploaded his photos to the Panjin community on the Internet and called him the "most brilliant peddler" in Panjin, many netizens wrote comments applauding Dong's optimism. Some netizens even consider him as the real version of Chinese TV series, "Elder Brother's Happiness," which tells a story about an elder brother's hard work to support his family and celebrates his optimism.

Dong said no matter how bad things were, whenever he picked up the flute and played, he would forget his troubles. Now he is in his 60s and has a stable pension every month. The economic condition of his family is much better.

"I would like to tell the young people that whenever you meet troubles, don't be afraid. As long as you try your best to change the status quo, everything is going to be O.K.," Dong said.
