In recent years, with the arrival of better living standards, the residents of the Nantong Economic & Technological Development Area, or NETDA – in Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province – reportedly want more out of life than the basic necessities of food, clothing, housing and transport.

As a result, the new leadership for seven communities at the NETDA's Zhongxing sub-district has introduced a slew of 51 measures covering improvements to the quality of life there, according to local media reports.

Nonetheless, incidents still occur in the communities, including clogged sewers, traffic jams and crowded parking lots – indicating that things still need to be done.

The Zhongxing sub-district has responded, by issuing well-considered admonitions to solve these problems in an orderly fashion. It has also seen to it that roads in the communities have been widened, sewers repaired and fire-fighting facilities in the community have been improved.

  • The NETDA Free Trade Zone got the original go-ahead, on Jan 3, 2013, from the State Council, for a 5.29-sq-km area, in two parts.
