The foreign trade volume of Nantong, Jiangsu province, rose 20 percent year-on-year to $2.8 billion in September, which slightly alleviated its steady fall in the first three quarters when the figure dropped 2.9 percent to $23.2 billion.

The increase in September resulted from the delivery of a semi-submersible accommodation rig named "Altantis" built by the Cosco Shipyard Group's Nantong subsidiary.

For the first three quarters, the major export products were clothing, shipping, textiles, chemicals, containers, and photovoltaic solar products, accounting for 56.3 percent of the city's total exports. Shipping exports rose 3.6 percent year-on-year, with the photovoltaic solar category up 7.6 percent, and containers up 3.5 percent. Meanwhile clothing exports fell 9.1 percent, textiles were down 1.6 percent, and the chemical category fell by 13.1 percent.
