Ruzhou promotes development of farmer cooperatives

There are more than 400 specialized farmer cooperatives with a total registered capital of 1.5 billion yuan ($247.95 million) in Ruzhou, Henan province, according to statistics from the Ruzhou municipal agriculture bureau.

The Ruzhou municipal agriculture bureau has taken many measures to push forward development of the city's farmer cooperatives since the promulgation of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Specialized Farmer Cooperatives in 2007.

The law's main content and objectives were publicized to farmers through TV and newspapers. Free technical training and support funds were provided to help farmer cooperative development. Moreover, the city's authorities strengthened administration to guarantee the cooperatives operate in accordance with laws and regulations.

The statistics showed that 114 farmer cooperatives were established in Ruzhou in 2013. There were 14 demonstration cooperatives at different levels in the city, including one at the national level, five at the provincial level and eight at the municipal level.
