Nov 30 was a good day of work for Dan Zhulin, a grain producer in Sishang village, Ruzhou city, Henan province. Harvesting more than 300,000 kilograms of rice and millet from his 86.7 hectares of land, he couldn't help grin from ear to ear.

Dan transferred more than 86.7 hectares of sloping fields from villagers and planted rice and millet this spring. During the harvest season, all people, regardless of age and sex, are threshing grains, winnowing chaff away, lifting bags, loading trucks on the threshing floor, and children play games.

The central government introduced a policy on land transfers in 2008 that allows farmers to transfer contracted right of land through subcontract, lease, exchange, transfer or joint stock partnership to develop various mass operations. Mass management entities including large-scale specialized producers, family farms, and farmer specialized cooperative organizations may be developed under the policy. The working people are not farmers any more; they are both the land owners and the workers invited by Dan Zhulin.

Dan not only directs the harvest, he also answers the phone and assists others.

"I am tired but happy," he said.

When the government implemented the policy, Dan began brainstorming ways to profit from grain production..

"The frequent rains have great influence on the yields but according to the market trend, sales and income will not be a problem," Dan said with confidence.
