The press conference of the second Quju Opera festival was held on Aug 19 at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. This festival will start on Sept 6 in Ruzhou, Henan province and it will last for four days. Almost 300 guests are expected to attend.

The Quju Opera festival is a biennial event composed of six activities: the opening ceremony, the Quju Opera show, the forum on the development of Chinese Quju Opera, awarding contemporary artists of Chinese Quju Opera, conference on investment and the closing ceremony.

Quju Opera originated in Ruzhou. It is among the top eight operas in China and the second largest opera in Henan province. Quju shares a common bond with people and has a strong local flavor. Nowadays it is becoming more and more popular in other Chinese regions, including Hebei province, Anhui province, Hubei province, Shaanxi province, Xinjiang autonomous region, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and Taiwan. The mellow and exquisite voice has also impressed overseas Chinese.
