In 2020, 19,812 new brands registered in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, bringing the city's total number of registered brands to more than 100,000 and occupying 35.4 percent of the province's total.

In recent years, Guiyang has strived to promote the intellectual property (IP) pledge by encouraging banks to launch related loan products to help companies reduce financing costs.

Guiyang accelerates the commercialization of proprietary technologies and supports companies to bring technology projects – including electronic engineering and new energy projects – to various exhibitions. In 2020, 1,279 technical contracts with a total contract value of 9.31 billion yuan ($1.44 billion) were signed in Guiyang.

The metropolis follows poverty alleviation principles and boosts the economy by building regional public brands and helping more products apply for national geographical indications.

Guiyang established mediation committees and stations at the municipal, county and district levels to solve IP rights disputes. The city also launched online training sessions to educate people on preventive patent analysis, litigation for IP infringement, and laws, regulations and policies related to enterprises' IP rights.

In 2021, Guiyang will continue protecting IPs, enhance its IP management capacity, provide better services for the public, and allow IPs to create more economic benefits.
