Thangka exhibition kicks off at Lanzhou city

The Rongbaoxuan Art Gallery in the city of Lanzhou, Gansu province held the Thangka Paintings Exhibition on Jan 18th, displaying more than 600 paintings, which were created by the eminent monks and thangka masters in the 15th -19th centuries.

Thangka art is an important part of Tibetan culture, for the thangka paintings depicting the life of the Buddha, describing historical events concerning important Lamas, or retelling myths connected with other deities.

It’s not easy to maintain the thangka, because it consists of a picture panel painted or embroidered over which a textile and then over which is laid a cover, usually silk. And this exhibition presented a lot of masterpieces which enabled the visitors to appreciate more Tibetan heritages.
