Xiahe Labrang Monastery Grand Buddhism Gathering

Features: Sunning of the Buddha(the embroidered Buddha in the temples are carried by lamas to the Sunning of Buddha platforms or hillsides for showing to the common people.), Buddhism fete dances, chanting, prayer, other Buddhist activities, monk tests, Buddhist scripture debates, and the month-long Langshan Tibetans Festival

Place: Labrang Monastery, Xiahe county, Gansu province

Time: two important events a year,The 4th day to the 17th day of the first month in the Chinese lunar calendar; and the 28th day of the sixth month to the 15th day of the seventh month in the Chinese lunar calendar

 

Langshan Festival

Features: Tibetans put up tents welcoming an array of flocks and herds under the blue sky and white clouds The Tibetan people will do the horse or yak-racing, tug-of-war, wrestling, foot-racing, singing and dancing during the festival.

Place: Langmu Temple and the Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture

Time: Three days from the 9th of the sixth month in the Tibetan calendar

 

Lanzhou 'Silk Road' Tourism Festival

Features: During the annual festival, trips are organized, starting from the city of Lanzhou, Gansu province, along the Qilian Mountains and passing the cities of Wuwei, Zhangye and Jiuquan. The trip crosses the Jiayu Pass and ends in the city of Dunhuang.

Place: Lanzhou

Time: Sept 10-17

 

Fuxi Cultural Festival

Features: Annual Fuxi worshipping ceremony. Fuxi was the first of the Three Sovereigns of ancient China and the inventor of writing, fishing, and trapping. The event includes large masses performing arts, modern drama, music and dance performances, and tourism trade fairs.

Place: The city of Tianshui, Gansu province

Time: The 13th day of the fifth month in the Chinese lunar calendar

 

Zhangye Mati Temple Tourism Festival

Features: Mati Temple (Horse's Hoof Temple), a famous scenic spot integrating grotto art, mountain views. The temple got its name because legend has it that a Chinese Pegasus landed here, leaving a huge horseshoe imprint that can still be seen within the Mati Hall. During the festival, the Yugur, Mongolian and Tibetan singing and dancing performances; sports events; equestrian performances; grassland activities; trade fairs and sightseeing will be put on.

Place: Mati Temple Tourist Area, Sunan county, the city of Zhangye

Time: Mid-August

 

Summer of Dunhuang artistic performance

Features: Singing and dancing programs with Silk Road culture and ethnic characteristics will be staged. The Summer of Dunhuang Art Festival is a stage for world to get touch with Dunhuang arts. Place: Zhiyuetian, Dunhuang Hotel, the city of Dunhuang

Time: At nights from June to October

 

Linxia Songmingyan Huaer Festival

Features: “Huaer” is a kind of folk song in Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia provinces, and Hua Er Festival is a young people get-together to sing folk songs. Duing the festival, singers, merchants and visitors gather to make a pilgrimage to a temple and celebrate. The important folk song contest and indigenous folk song show will be held. People will be in splendid dress and clime the mountain for a tour. When they stop for a rest, they will begin to sing the folk love song.

Place: Linxia Hui autonomous prefecture

Time: 26th-28th of the fourth month in the Chinese lunar calendar

 

Peach Blossom Festival

Features: In addition to appreciating flowers, tourists can enjoy various art activities, calligraphy and painting exhibitions, and trade fairs

Place: Peach Garden, Anning district, Lanzhou

Time: Around April when peach trees are in blossom

 

Huanxian Taoism Shadow Play Art Festival

Features: There are performance competitions, handcraft trade fairs, seminars on the reform and development of the art, calligraphy and painting exhibitions, youth singer competitions, and Long Opera performances (a traditional Chinese opera in Gansu province)

Place: Huanxian county

Time: The seventh lunar month

 

Gannan Shambala Tourism Festival

Features: Tibetan opera, ethnic sports competitions and folk songs with stringed instruments As part of the celebration, Tibetans assembled to dance the Guozhuang (a Tibetan folk dance performed in which the dancers circle a bonfire) on the prairie.

Place: Dangzhou Prairie of Hezuo city

Time: Mid-August

 

Maqu Gesar Culture Festival and Horse Racing

Features: Competitors will ride their horses enter the race course during the opening ceremony of the Gesar horse racing in Maqu county. More than1,000 people will compete in the five-day horse racing.

Place: Maqu county,Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture

Time: July and August

 

Wuwei Tianma Culture Tourism Festival

Features: Investment attraction, trade fair, artistic performances and special tourism events

Place: Liangzhou district, the city of Wuwei

Time: During July and September

 

Qingyang Sachet Folk Festival

Features: Folk performances, trade fairs, seminars and tourist activities

Place: The city of Qingyang
