FA3.0 launched in Shaoxing's distribution automation system

The new‑generation centralized feeder automation module (FA3.0) has gone live at the distribution automation master station in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province. It enables precise fault isolation and maximizes power restoration to non-faulted areas, enhancing the reliability of the local power supply.

Conventional feeder automation systems often experience workflow interruptions and require manual intervention in complex grid scenarios, such as switch operation failures and multiple simultaneous trips. Jointly developed by State Grid Shaoxing Power Supply Company and NARI Technology, FA3.0 addresses these real‑world challenges.

FA3.0 delivers an integrated set of capabilities that work together seamlessly. When the main tie switch fails to close, the system intelligently evaluates backup tie channels in priority order and coordinates power source switching, ensuring rapid restoration of supply to unaffected sections.

If remote tripping does not clear the fault, a stepwise zone‑enlarging isolation strategy automatically expands the isolation boundary level by level until the fault point is fully disconnected.

To handle the complexity of simultaneous multi‑switch tripping, a collaborative handling engine resolves strategy conflicts and prevents incorrect fault isolation.

Moreover, the system adapts to intermittent recurring faults and avoids delays caused by rigid time constraints, ensuring the entire fault‑handling workflow remains robust and uninterrupted.

Built for Shaoxing's dual‑source tie distribution network, FA3.0 addresses automation gaps under complex fault conditions. It improves the automation coverage and success rate of distribution line fault handling and reduces reliance on manual on‑site operations.
