State Grid Jinchang: Power drives cold chain efficiency, agricultural growth

Updated:2026-08-28

The harvesting was underway in Jinchang city's highland summer vegetable cultivation base. Fresh broccoli and baby cabbage, still dewy from the morning, were sorted, packaged, and preserved via cold chain logistics before being shipped overnight to supermarkets along China's southeastern coast.

The reliable and stable power supply, provided by State Grid Jinchang Power Supply Co (State Grid Jinchang), ensures the efficient operation of these cold chain logistics networks, laying an energy foundation for the steady development of the region’s billion-dollar vegetable, forage, and livestock industrial chain.

Cold chain preservation, intelligent sorting, and facility-based farming are key drivers of modern agriculture in cold and arid regions, with continuous and stable electricity supply serving as the core support for improving productivity and efficiency. Since the beginning of this year, Jinchang has focused on advancing modern cold-arid specialty agriculture, achieving an output value of 8.3 billion yuan ($1.14 billion) in its high-quality vegetable, forage, and livestock industrial chain — an increase of 13.57 percent compared to the same period last year.

To meet the growing electricity demand driven by agricultural scale-up, industrialization, and cold chain expansion, State Grid Jinchang has stepped forward, providing targeted support to safeguard the development of rural specialty industries.

To address electricity challenges across the entire chain — from fruit and vegetable harvesting and storage to logistics and transportation — the company established dedicated agricultural power service teams and each base had a specific solution. These teams regularly visit major planting bases, cold chain logistics parks, and agricultural processing workshops to conduct comprehensive inspections of power distribution lines, refrigeration systems, and intelligent sorting equipment, monitor load conditions, and perform equipment health checks.

Any electrical hazards are rectified to ensure the stable and around-the-clock operation of cold chain facilities. Meanwhile, the company has opened green channels for agricultural electricity applications, streamlined procedures, and precisely matched power needs with industrial projects. This has ensured the smooth implementation of key initiatives such as high-standard farmland, facility agriculture, and cold storage logistics.

In addition, State Grid Jinchang has extended its rural power services, collaborating with the city’s agricultural technology service system to provide regular on-site technical guidance and promote safe electricity practices, helping elevate the quality of agricultural socialized services. Thanks to the reliable power supply, Jinchang’s highland summer vegetables and livestock products can now be kept fresh throughout the entire cold chain and distributed nationwide, boosting stable income for 74,800 farming households.

State Grid Jinchang will continue optimizing rural power grid layouts and refining agricultural power protection measures. It will keep using high-quality electricity services to enhance the efficiency and quality of modern cold-arid specialty agriculture, injecting sustained energy into building Jinchang into a strong agricultural city and vitalizing rural industries.
